One of the last destinations on my list of places to visit in Japan was the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. The museum makes the nightmare of Hiroshima come alive once again. Words cannot describe the devastation in Hiroshima ensuing after 8:15am, August 6, 1945, when the United States dropped the A-bomb. Thousands and thousands of lives were instantly cut short. The bomb was only 3 meters long and only 4 tons, but it released the energy of 16,000 tons of high-performance explosives. The entire 2 kilometer radius from the bomb's hypocenter leveled nearly all buildings flat. Hiroshima became an instant wasteland.
The picture in this post was taken by Yoshito Matsushige at about 11am, August 6 2,270 meters from the hypocenter. It is the only picture taken at the date of the bombing. Interestingly enough, another journalist had attempted to capture the devastation, but froze in terror at what he saw.
Today I really had to think deeply to begin to process what I saw. I was certainly moved.

Wow, I can't even imagine how moving that must have been! It's so sad how many people lost their lives. I'm sure I would've been crying the whole time! After reading about your journey to Japan I've decided that I definitely have to go there one day. :)
