Crusing at and Altitude of...

Tokyo is now thousands of feet below me and Japan is rapidly becoming but a memory; I am sitting on ANA flight 1291 in seat 30K bound for Gimpo Airport in Seoul.

It is difficult to sum my impressions of Japan up in only a few short sentences. The way I see it, Japan is Asia`s gem. It is a country that is entirely Asian, yet also (in some ways) European. Many things in Japan are obviously Asian: its location for starters, its character based writing system, its people`s warm hospitality, its rice based cuisine, and the chopsticks! However, many things are also quite European: its small cars and narrow back roads, its world class transportation system, its Western foods, and its strong currency. Japan saw its potential decades ago and has lept forward to amaze the world.

Dear Japan,

I only wish we had met up earlier. Thanks for a wonderful time and hope to see you again soon.

Laters,

Derik
