Boryeong Mud Festival

What a day! I don`t think I`ve ever gotten as dirty and absolutly just covered from head to toe in mud as I did today. My perspective about mud has been flipped around. Mud is a thing not to be feared, but embraced. Get dirty!

Our adventure started in the morning with our group of six (my cousin David, his teacher friends, and myself) navigating the public transportation system about 3 hours until we arrived at the oceanside town of Boryeong. Stepping off the bus, the mud quickly began to fly. The city of Boryeong had trucked in tubs and tubs of mud for the crowds to just get covered in mud. Usually our routine was to first go for the mud bath and then do a little bit of mud wrestling, followed by a swim in the ocean. There were bands playing and there were more foreigners than I have ever seen at one place in Asia. The atmosphere was electric and one-of-a-kind. Truly unique.

Unfortunately, coming home we all got a bit too much sun. It`s going to really set in tomorrow when our burns begin to itch and peel. No regrets though! It was worth every minute of mud.
